Album covers of Eastern Europe 70s pop stars

Somewhere in Eastern-Europe back in the 70’s, these were the actual album record covers of pop stars. I’m not sure how “good” that was for their album sales / charts.
Some of the guys back then had their own unique styles, one of them was over 60 years old with “I am on top of the world” attitude riding a satellite in space. “Milance” is a big Casanova , a lady killer with Prince wannabe look. Then we found out that George Michael stole the outlook image from the big star “Zlatko” ,“Bajo” with stylish suit, hair and old “Tozovac” riding a cannon in a very funny FAIL position. Now I am actually thinking that Bajo and Saveta, the lady from the first picture, were dating back in the days.

You do realize that all these come from *one* country and that Eastern Europe is hugely diverse, without even accounting for the Russians … I’m Romanian and my dad had a large collection of vinyl records (foreign and indigenous) and some covers did look pretty ridiculous (e.g.: this German Bee Gees wannabes pop into my head
, but none were this crazy. I bet that if I dig a little I’ll find plenty of similar covers from the U.S.
You guessed right. there are a bazillion websites about “worst album covers ever” and most are from the US. Bad 70s album covers affected every region of the world, even the greatest countries like the USA and Russia.

i would change “talents” for “hability to make glorious album covers”. BTW, i LOVE the comunists covers. And i mean LOVE.
It’s just that styles, taste, and fashion change over time. Plenty ’70s album covers look ridiculous no matter where they are from. So do the clothes, films, and interior design. No harm in laughing at the past, we will be the joke in 30 years.

This former Yugoslavian “performers” were never considered as pop stars… It is more like low quality country music stars that performed in front of illiterate and totally drunk audience!!! And yea, Tozovac rules, hic !!!!
Boy I sure am sick of all this anti-U.S. sentiment on sites like these. So sorry for where I was born and what I am a part of.
On that note, I have never eaten a TV dinner and don’t currently own a TV “set” (even though no one has called it that since 1960)

Talent is based on looks. For instance, Britney Spears can’t sing a good note to save her life and she makes million upon millions. Then look at Susan Boyle, she lost due to being ugly, I think, and now she’s gonna have to be happy being a viral wannabe and making 10 pounds an hour at her local hamburger joint but oh she can sing good!

This is not eastern Europe, this is from Yugoslavia, which is located in south-central Europe. Central or south, but not east ok. Also Yugoslavia was never party of the Eastern-block.

Folks are saying that the album covers are unflattering, poorly designed and comically antiquated. they aren’t saying these folks cant sing. But if Luciano Pavarotti did an album cover where he wore lederhosen and posed on the hood of a car, he would come in for some chuckles at his expense no matter how he sounded. grow a sense of humor and quit trying to make folks feel bad for finding bad taste funny. As John waters pointed out, “Humor IS bad taste.”
Apparently pearson that is before me is very bright in it’s nature. these singers were singing in yugoslavia, but they all are from serbia, and yugoslavia doesn’t exist any more.

I would buy the first album, just for the picture on the cover.
It’s necessarily that everyone is being ethnocentric, it’s simply that across cultural borders, what is considered beautiful (and even talented) changes greatly.

Susan Boyle got as far as she did BECAUSE she is extremely ugly. the same goes for Paul Potts who won the original series of Britain’s got talent. talented but not outstandingly talented. if you are a mediocre singer then physical ugliness is your only hope of mainstream success. not a glowing review of our attitudes to fame but that’s how it is

It’s not eastern europe… only Yugoslavia (now Croatia, Serbis, Montenegro…etc.).

Wow….so much debate over album covers…The 2nd album states that it’s a parody right on the cover…as for the rest, yes, bad taste, hillarious but it’s a fact that well educated, sober people, rarely if ever , listened to any of that music…and while it’s funny and sad at the same time..i still think it’s better than some of the modern stuff…skulls, guns, injuries…really they dont make great album covers..ut they sell!
I was just thinking how beautiful and REAL the women look. Real women have curves. I shave myself, but I don’t see why a woman can’t make the choice not to and still be on an album cover.

Ok, here are some translations from the writing on the album covers if anyone is interested, should make them even funnier
1. Saveta Jovanovic – the sideways white writing – “Lies, lies, all that is yours!”
4. Milance Show – the blue thing say “COME BACK NENA!” (that’s my mother’s name, you know)
5. Zlatko Pejakovic – the white word in the gold star says “Gold” and the sideways white writing says “These nights, one woman sleeps soundly”
6. Bajo i Orkestar Mirka Kodi?a – red sideways writing – “I am winged like a bird”
7. Tozovac (dude on tank) … I can’t really read it

Haha, there are still some “artists” here in ex-Yugoslavia who have similar looking album covers, but most of them have the finances to pay some photoshop work

This might sound impossible, but the ridding cannon guy made lots of money back then and the guy with white suit and black hat also had successful career. Actually all of them had very successful careers 35 years ago and I know this all sound ridiculous but it’s true. The fact is back then you didn’t need good look just to be famous, they are all very talented people, but obviously theirs talents didn’t include fashion

Wow-For the longest time I always thought it was the Americans who were intolerant of other cultures, but after going through these comments a completely different picture emerges. I respect everyone of these performers. They had the guts to make an album and put it out there for everyone to see and enjoy. By our standards now they look funny, but when I look at my High School photos I crack myself up. Times change and so do our thoughts of what is funny.

This is not Eastern Europe. Most of these are Serbian, or at the time Yugoslavian which is in the BALKANS. Check again what is considered to be Eastern Europe.

That “Eastern country” is Serbia. All of this singers are Serbians, and pictures are not made in photoshop, cause i found somewhere one of those cassettes in my uncle house. But there is one thing i know for sure *they were not so popular*. And Serbian nation just laugh on this to. I know all about this shit since i`m from Montenegro, and Montenegro and Serbia were one country called Yugoslavija.
These people are not pretty nor talented -_- music like this exists today and it’s load of bullsh*t. Also, yeah, this is not East or whatever, it’s Yugoslavia. Educate yourselves.
