Temporary cinemas became common in Ghana in the 80s because of the video cassette technology. When “mobile cinema” operators traveled from town to town creating these temporary cinemas, they needed movie posters in order to promote the movies. They hired artists were given totally freedom to paint the posters as they wanted, some of them didn’t even watch the movies, and that is why the result was interesting and bizarre movie posters, mostly of horror and trash action movies.

A French artist that calls himself MTO has done graffiti of famous movie roles all over Berlin. This German city is known for being the one with most street art in Europe. MTO has done anything from Ace Ventura the pet detective to Jack Torrance in The Shining.
