Recently YouTube has celebrated its 5th birthday, and for such a short period it has succeeded in being a part of millions of peoples lives. Even if you are either alone or with friends and family, there will always be YouTube videos involved, either funny bloopers, music videos and even vlogs from several YouTube stars.

These YouTube stars have chosen to share their everyday life with million other YouTube viewers and members, and they have done a lot of videos that will make you laugh. Sylvia and Jen are film-making twin sisters from Vancouver and creators of Twisted Twins Productions. CJ worked in independent film and television for over twelve years and have made two short films, countless fast-film contests and a handful of no-budget music videos.

The three of them met during the time of the twin sisters first film “D*ead H*oker in a Trunk”, and hired CJ as actor for one of the film’s lead roles. They became very close professionally and socially, and with CJ and Sylvia, romantically as they are now dating.

Tell something about this movie, where did you get inspiration from?

We really love watching YouTube, and we have really enjoyed watching the videos of the four talents we follow in the film, David Choi, TayZonday, HappySlip, and Daxflame. It just came up very naturally that it would be rad if there was a documentary that followed these online personalities, and there is this huge culture of people who watch these online videos.

dax-please-subscribe please-subscribe-cast tay-zonday-movie Are short movies your favorite kind of movies? What kind of documentaries will you recommend for our readers?

We like short films, but Jen prefers feature length ones. Short film competitions are a great way of learning to think on your feet and find fast solutions on set because you have a time limit to create something with little to no planning beforehand. Also you can get a short film out to audiences faster and it’s always nice to be able to get our work out there

We enjoy watching documentaries. They have that human quality about them. We would probably recommend “Confessions of a Superhero” and “Spell Bound”.

Did you have lots of fun making this movie, and do you have any fun situations to tell us about while making it?

We had loads of fun making it! The online personalities we had in this film are some of the nicest, most genuinely kind, and cool people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. They were very honest and hospitable throughout every moment on set. There was this time when we were filming with Christine, HappySlip, on the beach and it just started pouring like crazy. So we have two umbrellas, one for the camera and one for Christine, and we are all huddled together with the camera and everybody is getting soaked. Christine gets soaked, David Choi and his friends get soaked and they are just all smiles and good humor. They are such funny people.

Another fun situation was when this lion tried to pee on us while we were on location at the Vancouver Zoo. That was definitely crazy!

making-of-please-subscribe What is your favorite Youtube videos, and how often are you on Youtube?

In general we love watching people do stupid things, fall down, throw water balloons, and pretty much anything else idiotic and crazy. Our favorite videos are many but there is a video with a little hamster trying to get through a closed door with Queen’s “Don’t Stop Me Now” playing through it, it’s so dumb that we just love it. TayZonday’s famous “Chocolate Rain” is rad, his voice is awesome, and David Choi did a video involving the Duck Tales theme song during his ‘no smiling’ phase. It was one of those things you see vacuum-brained in the middle of the night and it wins you over instantly.

Are Youtube stars just random “guys next door” kind of types, or do they have that special something like the big stars?

Yeah, we actually think they have something special. There’s a reason why so many people are drawn to their videos and subscribe to their channels. Whether it’s their content or their personalities or some kind of unique something, you want to see what they are going to do next. As for being the next big stars, I guess that would depend on what you consider a big star to be, but they are definitely getting attention on the street, and have been on several talk shows. As for the future, we think the popularity of online personalities will grow.

Do you anticipate any of them a bright career in showbiz?

They are all born entertainers and are all very talented.

Daxflame has this amazing presence and humor. He’s a young guy, so there’s still time to see what he’s going to do next.

TayZonday is this wonderful mix of a very deep voice with a very youthful exterior. He has already been hugely successful.

HappySlip is lovely, charming, and funny and her impersonations really illustrate her family well. She does a lot of stand up which could branch out to all other levels of entertainment.

David, like the rest, has a big following. He has been touring around North America as he gets ready to release his new CD.

When is the movie coming out and will it be on film festivals?

The movie is currently being cut and sound mixed into its final state. The people at YouTube have passed the trailer around the office internally and are really excited about the film. I assume their thought is this would be an ideal type of film to partner up with to test that out. We are listening to what they have to say and nothing is being ruled out at this point but the plan at the moment is a traditional release.

We have a self-imposed deadline as there are a few festival submission dates coming up and we are really looking forward to getting the film out there.

What is your next project going to be?

My and Jen’s project will most likely be “American Mary”, but you can never tell how things are going to go, since we have a lot of films that we’d like to do. Right now, we’re so happy with how “Please Subscribe” is turning out.

CJ is having 3 music videos upcoming. One for Fake Shark-Real Zombie drummer Malcolm Holt’s solo project, another one for a local band named “All My Friends”, and in the beginning of March he’s off to Toronto to direct a video for Sarah Slean he conceived. He also have an album of original music coming out shortly under the name “Elective”.
