An Austrian artist named Gabi Trinkaus calls herself a “media thief” because she uses small pieces of glossy magazines to make portrait collages. Many would say that the portraits look creepy but they are trying to show the aesthetics of advertising and media.

Artist Christopher Locke has made these modern fossils by hand, everything from cassettes and floppy disks to Nintendo and joysticks. They represent pieces of modern technology that almost has become “extinct” in these days because of improved technology. Locke collaborated with a local computer and electronics recycling program, insuring that there was no e-waste from the project.

The married couple Allen and Patty Eckman are known for their fine and detailed sculptures made of acid free cast paper. Their art shows mostly sculptures of Indians, but it also includes nature, women, children and animals.

An artist from Pittsburgh named Cliff Maynard is making portraits by using marijuana filters. The portraits are of famous people like Bob Marley, Snoop Dog and John Lennon, to mention a few. It’s not easy to make such a portrait and it takes about 200 hours to complete one, and it’s certainly not cheap (or legal?), one portrait will cost you $2,000.
