In this week’s “around the web” segment, ThisBlogRules ventures out into the furthest reaches of our galaxy, and other galaxies, by way of a trusty telescope; it turns out our universe can be pretty spectacular. We also take a look at some creepy abandoned water parks, one particularly nasty tattoo, and we examine the undying connection between nerds and spectacles. It’s all right here in our “around the web” special; just don’t stare at that tattoo for too long – it’ll give you nightmares.

British street artist Boxi is becoming more popular everyday as he takes over the streets of Germany, one wall at a time. He is most commonly known for his haunting, post-apocalyptic work, but now his work more often shows the charming touches of humanity.

His installations are all hand-cut, multi-layered life-size stencils presented on concrete walls. They can consist of anything from a random young man just standing still to the ironic placement of a street cleaner; simple everyday people, but not real of course. Boxi completed his studies at the London St. Martins school of art with a BA Fine Arts degree in painting in 1996, so it’s of little wonder where he got his skills from. Some of his stuff really is amazing, and we definitely hope to see more from this guy in the near future. Other amazing street art worth seeing is Pacman all over the street walls of NYC.

For a new TBR (This Blog Rules) segment, the TBR staff hopped on a TBR-branded plane and traveled around the web in search of intriguing blog posts. They searched near and far, and what they uncovered amazed even them. So, cozy up on your favorite couch, open an ice cold bottle of Pepsi (we’re a Pepsi nation here at TBR), grab a bag of steaming, buttered popcorn, and take a gander at the links below. Oh, one more thing: be sure to dip each kernel of popcorn into an Arnold Palmer before you eat it. Sounds kind of gross, but trust me–it’s delectable.

The work of Italian artist Filippo Minelli can be described as something between work of art and reality. It’s not exactly street art, but something similar to that. He definitely draws attention with his painted words and logos that pop out from almost nowhere.

Apple and Facebook logos on old walls and houses, Google logos on the Chinese Wall and children’s playground, and fun words at all kinds of weird locations. The goal for Minelli is to create some kind of contrast between the words and the chosen locations, to make us think and wonder what he meant with that specific installation. I think every piece can be analyzed in many different ways, it’s kind of a individual thing, that’s the thing that is so great with art.

There is a lot of fancy and impressive graffiti art out there, so much that you can’t separate them anymore, but have you ever seen a 3D graffiti before? Italian street artist called Peeta has been decorating street walls since 1993, so lack of skills is obviously not an issue here. Now he is hand painting three dimensional graffiti art both indoor and outdoor.

It has the perfect shades and shadows, so perfect that you think you can touch it if you come any closer. To practice his 3D style skills he sculpts a lot to get in touch with new shapes, and when he paints on walls he get inspiration for his sculptures, so he says that it all goes around in a beneficial circle for him.

After seeing graffiti art like this I don’t get people who claim it’s ugly or that it ruins the boring concrete street walls. I think it, frankly is amazing, and continues to look amazing even in picture form. The same thing goes for these graffiti of famous movie roles by artist MTO.
