20 Amazing Photos from the 2011 England Riots

Chaos ran rampant through the streets of London, Birmingham, Manchester and Liverpool (among others) from the 6th to the 9th of August, 2011 as hundreds of rioters trashed stores and burned down buildings for reasons that were for the most part inexplicable. What started out as a peaceful protest in reaction to the fatal shooting by police of a Tottenham local quickly turned into a slew of pointless, barbaric, copycat violence that slowly spread from city to city. Britons watched on the news and on the streets themselves as the country tore itself apart, hordes of youths rampaging across England to loot local shops and commit horrifying acts of arson.

16,000 police officers patrolled the streets on the last night of the riots to protect the UK from the animalistic violence, in the end resulting in more than 1,600 arrests. And amidst all of this mindless anarchy were photographers (both professional and amateur) snapping striking images of these acts of thuggish criminality. 12 year old boy arrested after deliberately “breaking wind” in school class

kid-arrestedA 12-year-old student from Florida was arrested for breaking wind during class and disturbing his classmates by shutting off their computers at Stuar’s Spectrum Jr./Sr. High School. The police called this a “deliberately passed gas to disrupt the class” and “disruption of a school function” County Sheriff’s Office report, a copy of which you’ll find below, notes that the 4′ 11″ offender admitted that he “continually disrupted his classroom environment by breaking wind and shutting off several computers.”

Burglar arrested after leaving his Facebook account logged in at the crime scene

bugglaratfacebookHow dumb can you get? Really, really, really dumb. Jonathan Parker, a PA resident, decided to rob a house outside of Martinsburg in Berkeley County, WV. But that’s not the dumb part. Ready for this? He checked his Facebook account on the victim’s computer and left it logged in! The Martinsburg Journal (sort of my home newspaper, unfortunately) reports. He apparently stole two diamond rings, in addition to some equipment from the garage. Because of his awesomeness, the police were able to nab him relatively easily.
