Animal Groups Names You Didn’t Know (Part 2)

April 19, 2016 By Fred Mitchell Leave a Comment

The list continues showing you the oddest and most interesting animal groups names out there, a fascinating concept in itself. It’s a beautiful way of expression and display of their traits and, on some occasions, of what they represent. At the very least, our human interpretations of different animal behavior and human-like qualities. We can’t actually check if lions have pride since it’s more likely an instinct of self-preservation. But we won’t ruin it for you.

And this is not even the beginning of it.

A Team of Cattle

A strong representation of hard work, cattle band together, graze together, live together, and are often put simultaneously at work. It stands to reason that they would be called a team when they’re all in one place.

A Coalition of Cheetahs

cheetah animal in savanna

An alliance of the fierce and fast animals that roam around savannas. They are considered to be the fastest cats on earth, so it’s probably their only option to forge a partnership with others who can keep up. Especially if they’re cheating…

A Chattering of Chicks

Feel free to read anything into it. Even though the fairer sex is commonly associated with endless chatter in the media, this is much more likely addressing the incessant chirping of little chicks. It’s like an unending choir that does not stop until they grow.

A Bed of Clams

Some of them might be edible while they’re still fresh, and viciously dangerous if they’re not. It would be odd to say you’ve eaten a bed of clams or order it, but it’s good to know most of us have been saying it all wrong.

A Quiver of Cobras

One of the delightfully appropriate and beautiful animal groupings name there is. Whether it’s referring to the threatening light quivering of the snakes or the common reaction to them, it’s certainly fitting.

An Intrusion of Cockroaches

It cannot get more appropriate than this. They are the enemies of our kitchens and unwelcomed guests in any house. Certainly, they fit as the intruders that everyone tries to exterminate.

A Raft of Coots

These water birds swim together in a tight formation, especially as little hatchlings. They float slowly but steadily, giving off the impression of a raft calmly going through the motions of the water.

A Gulp of Cormorants

Another species of birds that dwell in the waters. Cormorants have a quick and easy way to swallow their food, all done in one swoop gulp. In fact, they’re such efficient hunters that Chinese fishermen traditionally use them to catch fish. However, their throats are tied up, so they can’t gulp down their catch.

A Kine of Cows

It’s not a herd nor a pack, it’s a kine. For such a common and well-known animal, it may be surprising that we haven’t referred to them right.

A Band of Coyotes

coyote hunting

They might not be rock stars, but coyotes certainly like singing together and causing shivers to run down the spines of listeners. It’s a fascinating habit of the canines, and exceptional to hear… as long as you’re not too close.

A Cast of Crabs

These tiny little critters move like a cast of ballerinas sideways, so the name is beyond fitting.

A Float of Crocodiles

They might be heavy, dangerous, and one of the most ancient ancestor of the extinct dinosaurs. Crocodiles swim in the deep end of the water to control their body temperature, but they also float together on the surface. Nothing but their eyes and the tip of their snout edges out.

A Murder of Crows

Possibly one of the most well-known collective noun due to literature, music, and movies. However, they’re also called a parcel or a storytelling of crows.

A Gang of Deer

Roaming the forests mostly together, the more commonly used word is “herd”. It’s not incorrect, but it’s certainly not the most interesting. They are also called a “leash of deer”.

A Clash of Bucks

male deers

An easy one to interpret, if only for their famous clashes and fights that make these otherwise innocent-looking animals terrifying. One push of their horns will send you homeward.

A Cry of Hounds

Dogs, in general, are referred to as the well-known “kennel of dogs”. However, hounds have a few collective nouns from themselves, including cry and mute.

A Pitying of Turtle Doves

Or a “pitenousness” of turtle doves. This is in spite of the fact that normal doves can be called a dule, a dole, a cote, or a paddling.

A Badling of Ducks

Available only for the ground birds. It’s safer just to call them a flock, though.

A Convocation of Eagles

bald eagle

Recognized as one of the noblest and proudest animals, eagles do not gain the name of flock or herd. Oh no, leave that to the “petty ducks”.

A Fry of Eels

Is it because they can actually fry things with their electricity? Possibly.

A Memory of Elephants

Hinged on one of the most well-known facts about the massive animals. Elephants are famous for having an exceptional memory, one that is believed can surpass a human’s given their lifespan.

A Business of Ferrets

They’re not exactly the most formally “dressed” animals, such as penguins and their little tuxedos. However, they do poke their noses into other people’s business, so perhaps that’s the true explanation behind their name.

A Charm of Finches

These tiny little beautiful birds have trademark brightly colored cheeks. It makes them look as if they’re always blushing.

A Flamboyance of Flamingos

With long legs and pink feathers, there’s no doubt that these birds are so flamboyant in their appearance that they’re only missing some tulle. They’re easy to spot and popular around the world for their colors. And they sure flaunt it.

A Knot of Frogs

If you’ve ever seen frogs banding together, you will definitely understand why. In fact, you should go ahead and search it right now if you haven’t. It’s clearly a tight knot between friends.

A Troop of Foxes

It’s also called a “leash”, a “skulk”, or an “earth” of foxes, given the cunning manner of these adorable-looking animals. They have been shown to be smart and resourceful, and actually caring for their cubs.

Not enough? Move on to part three of this series.

Animal Groups Names You Didn’t Know (Part 1)

April 18, 2016 By Fred Mitchell Leave a Comment

Most of us have heard of animal groups such as “a parliament of owls”, “a murder of crows”, or “an army of ants”. These are classics that we meet in day-to-day life, or perhaps even some choice poetry. They’re beautiful expressions that vary from group to group, depicting their relationships or perhaps their most prized trait.

These have become a symbol for lyrical works of art, such as songs, poetry, and several others. The parliament describes the wisdom of the owls, the murder denotes the possible meaning of death precursors in the form of crows and many others. However, these are just some of the classics. There are many, many more animal groups that you likely did not know, and here are some of them from A to Z.

A Congregation of Alligators

american alligator

The symbolism behind this choice of words is all in togetherness. Alligators naturally emit low vibrations through the water when trying to find the right mate. Such as them, this name talks about using everything we have for the purpose of gathering all the right people around us.

A Shrewdness of Apes

A symbol of the animal’s ingenuity, they band together to find the best way to survive, whether that means brute force or gentle strength.

A Pace of Asses

A slow, methodical, and enduring animal, who may not be the fastest, but it’s certainly one of the most reliable.

A Troop of Baboons

A herd animal who lives, hunts, and attacks together with his pack.

A Cete of Badgers

badger standing by a log

Possibly a Latin derivation from the word “coetus” or “coire”, which means to come together.

A Battery of Barracudas

A commonly used collective noun that quite possibly started with the dangerous predators of the waters.

A Cloud of Bats

Quite an easy interpretation would speak about this animals group habits of flying together, banding across the skies like a dark cloud looming over.

A Sloth of Bears

brown bear

This may sound like a group of bears would be notoriously slow and lazy, but that’s probably only a reference to their hibernation habits. They do sleep for quite a while, but they’re certainly not slow.

A Family of Beavers

A very friendly way to address a group of these log-eater who have shown exceptional teamwork and have become a symbol of the prime construction crew.

A Brood of Chicks

There are numerous names for birds, and they do seem to vary, depending on their age and environment. A brood of chicks are the clear symbol of the tight group they walk in while following their mother closely.

A Flight of Birds

Available for avian birds who grace the skies.

A Volery of Birds

It’s the collective nouns for game birds, though it’s highly unknown and rarely used. Most would certainly opt for the simple “flock”. That would be wrong though.

A Flock of Birds

And there we have it. The right collective known for birds who dwell on the ground, sometimes also known as a “dissimulation of birds”. According to the rules, you’ve likely been using the word “flock of birds” wrong for years.

A Wreck of Birds

There’s one more, this in particular for a group of seabirds that dwell around the waters. They often appear around wreckage and seeing diving into the water, bolding finding prey around the surface.

A Sute of Bloodhounds

It’s not a pack of hunting dogs that you see hunters take with them. It’s a sute.

A Gang of Buffalos

Or otherwise called an obstinacy of buffalos, a symbol of their stubbornness and violent clashes.

A Flutter of Butterflies

butterfly

That’s right, it’s not just a simple group, but these beautiful insects do have their more artistic name.

A Caravan of Camels

Likely an easy guess, a representation of the animals main usage, helping people crossing the arid deserts and moving their caravans due to their exceptional water supply.

A Pounce of Cats

There are several collective nouns that would work for the internet’s favorite animals. It would also be accurate to say a dout of cats, a nuisance of cats, a glorying, a glare, or, the more common one, a clowder.

An Intrigue of Kittens

The tiny little baby cats have their own category. Apparently, they have not become a “nuisance of cats” yet.

A Destruction of Wildcats

Perhaps an expected name, considering the true potential hiding behind those claws and undomesticated behavior.

There are many, many more interesting collective nouns out there, all with hidden meanings, clear purposes, or downright confusing connotations. However, it’s interesting to see how many of us have been wrong for a long time.

Part two of the list is available if you want to check it out!

8 Most Famous Dogs Of All Time

March 11, 2016 By Toby Isaacson Leave a Comment

“Dogs are man’s best friends.” It’s a saying that we are all familiar with. However, some dogs are more than the faithful companions we will remember for years to come. There are some pooches that manage the performance of making history, becoming parts of the memories of many other people aside from their owners. They’ve impressed the whole world, either through deeds that showed immense bravery, either by proving the extent of their loyalty. These are the 8 Most Famous Dogs Of All Time, which are here to prove us all that humans aren’t the only ones capable of incredible achievements.

1. Laika

Laika - Most Famous Dogs Of All Time

The first living and breathing creature that managed to break through Earth’s atmosphere wasn’t a human. Laika is undoubtedly the most famous dog in history, for managing to give us all hope that outer space’s boundaries weren’t impossible to cross. Initially a stray dog, she was recruited by several Soviet scientists with the sole intention of being trained for the space program.

After going through intensive training, she was the one selected to board the Sputnik 2 ship which sent her in a place no other dog had ever been before. Unfortunately, spaceships at the time had no “return option,” but Soviet officials ensured us that Laika was peacefully euthanized soon after the level of oxygen started dropping.

2. Hachiko

Hachiko - Most Famous Dogs Of All Time

When a dog has had a statue made to honor it, then you know something truly astonishing must have happened. Hachiko’s statue is in Odete, Japan, his city of origins. Hidesaburo Ueno, his owner, traveled back and forth between Odete and Tokyo via train. Hachiko would go to the train station at a precise hour and, every day, he would wait for him at the entrance. Unfortunately, in May 1925, Ueno didn’t show up anymore, having passed away due to a harsh hemorrhage.

This didn’t make Hackiko’s loyalty waiver since he continued to travel to the train station every day, where he continued to wait for his beloved human. He continued doing this for nine years, only being stopped by death. The Akita Inu was found lifeless in 1935, near the vicinity of the Shibuya station.

3. Appollo

Appollo - Most Famous Dogs Of All Time

Appollo was only one of the 350 search-and-rescue dogs that became heroes of the tragic terrorist attacks of 9/11. He and his human partner Peter Davis relentlessly searched for survivors for as much as 16 hours every day. The missions of the SAR police officers and their dogs have been documented by Animal Planet, which noted that the dogs seemed equally heartbroken as their partners when they found victims.

The SAR teams, Appollo included, saved numerous lives in the aftermath of the attacks, and they have undoubtedly become heroes worthy of being celebrated in years to come.

4. Lex

Lex - Most Famous Dogs Of All Time

Lex and his partner, Marine Corps Cpl. Dustin J. Lee, were stationed in Fallujah, Iraq. When an explosive attack was launched on their camp, Lee lost his life and Lex suffered serious injuries. The truly amazing part of this story is the fact that the German shepherd refused to leave the side of his deceased soldier, despite being in need of urgent medical examinations. The medics had to forcefully pull him away from Lee’s body in order to treat his wounds. Having been left unable to continue his duty for the Marines, Lex became the first working military dog that was permitted a premature retirement. He was adopted by Jerome and Rachel Lee, and then became a therapy dog, visiting war veterans in hospitals and helping them with their healing process. Lex died aged 13 in 2012.

He was adopted by Jerome and Rachel Lee and then became a therapy dog, visiting war veterans in hospitals and helping them with their healing process. Lex died aged 13 in 2012.

5. Benji

Benji - Most Famous Dogs Of All Time

Unlike his other canine fellows on this list, Benji was a fictional hero on the big screens. The 1974 movie Benji melted the hearts of audiences by telling the story of a mixed-breed pooch that went to great lengths to save two kidnapped children. The part was played by a pup named Higgins, who’d been adopted from the Burbank Animal Shelter. Amazingly, Benji’s impact didn’t stop here since over a million dogs were adopted in the year when Benji’s fame was at its peak.

6. Toto

Toto - Most Famous Dogs Of All Time

I’m sure there’s hardly any need to explain Toto’s origins because most of you probably already know. This definitely says a lot about the influence the small mutt has had on the world. Known as Dorothy’s dog in the popular movie adaptation of The Wizard of Oz, Toto was such an iconic figure that over 30% of small dog breed owners have named heir pooches after him. The real life star behind the fictive pup was a 5-year-old terrier named Terry, whose career in the movie industry continued to flourish beyond the success of The Wizard of Oz.

7. Bobbie

Bobbie - Most Famous Dogs Of All Time

This Collie lived the real life version of Lassie’s story, proving an unshakeable devotion to his family. In 1923, Bobbie was traveling alongside his family, having gotten separated from them at some point. Although his owners turned the world upside down in their searches for him, they eventually had to give up and return home. “Giving up” wasn’t a concept understood by Bobbie, who traveled over four thousand kilometers all across the United States in his quest to return home. Six months since his disappearance, the family found Bobbie on their doorstep, clearly worn out from his long journey.

8. Smoky

Smoky - Most Famous Dogs Of All Time

Despite its small size, this Yorkshire terrier was a true WWII survivor. She was found in 1944 by Cpl. William A. Wynne, who immediately grew fond of her. The two of them became inseparable, sharing everything from food ratios to sleeping bags. Smoky managed to elude over 150 air raids, also surviving a destructive typhoon in Oklahoma.

Moreover, she saved the lives of her owner and his comrades on multiple occasions with her fine danger detection senses. With her help, the soldiers managed to stop in time many incoming fires. Smoky became a mascot of WWII, for her incredible ability to beat odds and be a survivor, and she is considered today as one of the first therapy dogs on record.

These 8 Most Famous Dogs Of All Time have shaped history forever, but if you think about it, every dog is the personal hero of its owner.

15 Amazing Facts About Dinosaurs You Need To Know

March 3, 2016 By Toby Isaacson Leave a Comment

When I was little, there was nothing I loved more than dinosaurs. I had a big encyclopedia filled just with information on these giants. On one of my birthdays, I was gifted a box set with dinosaur plastic figurines. Also, it goes without saying that Jurassic Park was my favorite movie. You’d think that once adulthood rolls in, this interest began to fade, but, surprise: it didn’t. And why would it? Dinosaurs are like dragons, mighty and ancient, except they were actually real. So, for all the big T-Rex enthusiasts out there, here are 15 Amazing Facts About Dinosaurs You Need To Know, to indulge in.

1. Rulers Of Earth

Amazing Facts About Dinosaurs - Dominant Species

Dinosaurs were the ruling species on Earth for over 165 million years. Humanity, on the other hand, has only been around for roughly two million. If we have so much history to study, imagine how tough life would have been in dinosaur schools.

2. Fastest Dinosaurs

Fastest Dinosaur -Amazing Facts About Dinosaurs

They could reach some truly impressive speed. A dinosaur called the Ornithonimus being the Usain Bolt of its species. According to scientific research, it could run with a speed of 70 km/h.

3. Lifespan

Amazing Facts About Dinosaurs - Lifespan

Despite all the progressive steps that have been made in science since we first started to dig up dinosaur fossils, the lifespan of dinosaurs is still unclear. However, it’s estimated that some of them were able to live up to two hundred years.

4. Sizes

Sizes, Among The Amazing Facts About Dinosaurs

The majority of dinosaurs were actually not that much taller than your average human. You can find plenty of skeletons in museums that belonged to colossally big dinosaurs, but only because it’s apparently easier for large bones to fossilize and, thus, be preserved and reconstructed into a replica.

5. Stegosaurus State

Amazing Facts About Dinosaurs - Stegosaurus State

Colorado is also nicknamed Stegosaurus State. No, no, it has nothing to do with a strange shape on the map or anything. The first Stegosaurus remains were found in Colorado, which is definitely an honor that needs to be boasted to the world.

6. The Name

The Name - Amazing Facts About Dinosaurs

The first time the word “dinosaur” was used, was in 1842, by a British paleontologist named Richard Owen. A Greek term, it roughly translates to “terrible lizard.” The cool fact is that, apparently, it wasn’t used derogatorily, since Owen intended it be a nod to their size and majesty.

7. Long Tails

Amazing Facts About Dinosaurs - Long Tails

There were some dinosaurs who had incredibly long tails, although most members of the family tended to have tails lengthier than those of our animals today. Scientists think that they were biologically engineered this way, so they could keep their balance while running. Okay, fair enough, but where is that theory that explains the T-Rex’s really, really small arms?

8. They Laid Eggs

Laid Eggs - Amazing Facts About Dinosaurs

Dinosaurs were the old ancestors of lizards, so it only makes sense that they laid eggs. So far, we know of about forty types of eggs.

9. Oldest Dinosaur

Amazing Facts About Dinosaurs - Oldest Dinosaur

Meet the Eoraptor, a dinosaur with a name that translates to “dawn stealer” (a much better name than “terrible lizard,” just saying). It was called this way, so it could be representative of the fact that this breed is really old, having roamed the Earth during the earliest days of the Dinosaur Age. An Eoraptor was apparently no bigger than a German shepherd.

10. Bird Ancestors

Bird Ancestors - Amazing Facts About Dinosaurs

You may have heard about this before, as you should since it’s a fact as fascinating as it is hilarious. Did you know that the closest relative of a T-Rex is the chicken? Birds, in general, share many traits with the mighty dinosaurs, which has led scientists to believe that some of them managed to survive their mass extinction, then continued to live on through the winged species as a mutated, smaller scale version. Honestly, I just want to know which dinosaur is responsible for geese, because it must have been quite the awful creature.

11. Jurassic Park

Amazing Facts About Dinosaurs - Jurassic Park

Speaking of Jurassic Park, earlier mentioned in the introductory paragraph, one of the reasons why the movie was so insanely successful was because it was as accurate as a dinosaur movie could get. Steven Spielberg wanted scientific precision, so he hired actual paleontologists that were consulted on the creatures’ behavior and movements. Thanks to that, we also got to experience the eerie realism of the suits and animatronics that were used to bring the T-Rex, raptors, and others to our screens.

12. Dinosaur Nests

Amazing Facts About Dinosaurs - Nests

Close your eyes and try to imagine a raptor frantically running back and forth, picking up twigs and pieces of wood in its mouth, which are taken to decorate its home, sweet home: a nest. Also like birds, dinosaurs kept their eggs safe in nests. The first one was discovered by an explorer named Roy Andrews Chapman in the Gobi Desert, Mongolia. Before this discovery, how dinosaurs reproduced was a great scientific mystery.

13. Extinction

Exctinction - Amazing Facts About Dinosaurs

That dinosaurs no longer inhabit Earth we already know, but there are actually multiple theories trying to explain how it was possible for a whole species to go completely extinct in such a short time. The most common one refers to a six-mile diameter meteorite that crashed on the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. The impact was so powerful that it triggered a chain reaction of cataclysms, including volcano eruptions.

14. Blood Temperature

Amazing Facts About Dinosaurs - Blood Temperature

Despite being similar to the biology of our modern lizards, scientists argue that not all dinosaurs were cold-blooded. Some had warm blood while some had neither. One belief developed into a theory that concluded small carnivores may have been warm-blooded due to their constant activity, while large herbivores had colder blood run through their systems, because of their sedentary nature.

15. Hollow Bones

Hollow Bones - Amazing Facts About Dinosaurs

Ah, we’re not done with the dinosaur-bird comparisons just yet. Despite how massive looking a carnivore’s bones may seem, they’re actually empty on the inside. This was a great asset to their nature as hunters since it meant that the bones were lighter. This means that the dinosaurs could accelerate to great speeds when running.

Trying to squeeze 65 million years of history into 15 Amazing Facts About Dinosaurs You Need To Know is as impossible as it is mildly offensive. Humanity may be the most developed and complex species in history, with achievements that are miles ahead of anything any animal could accomplish, but we have a long way to go before we can even dream about reaching the performance of ruling Earth for as long as the dinosaurs have. And when we eventually do, hopefully, it won’t end as tragically for us.

11 Amazing Facts About Foxes To Make You Love Them

February 19, 2016 By Toby Isaacson Leave a Comment

For many animals, their reputation precedes them. Unfortunately, that’s not necessarily a good thing, since many of those reputations are built on a keystone of misconceptions and an eager tendency to judge by offering no means of defense. I mean, fair enough, animals can’t call us to solve it over a court seeing. Foxes are often depicted as deceitful and cunning creatures, not rarely being a direct equivalent to evil. But, like any other animal, they simply live their lives with a sense of instinct, so don’t take anything they do personally. If they happen to be clever enough to trick its own kin, that can only be a bonus in the harsh world of the wilderness, right? Well, a Dutch photographer named Rosalind Raimond decided to capture the other sides of foxes, by snapping them in beautiful pictures that showcase their loving and adorable nature. While we line them up, we’ll also know 11 Amazing Facts About Foxes To Make You Love Them, as a means to learn something different about them.

1. They’re Solitary Creatures

Amazing Facts About Foxes - They're Solitary

Although members of the Canidae family, along with dogs, wolves and jackals, foxes don’t behave like their cousins, as far as organization goes. They don’t gather in packs, preferring to hunt and live by themselves. The only exception is when they form small families, called “leashes of foxes,” and live in underground burrows.

2. They’re Cat Like

Cat Like -Amazing Facts About Foxes

Yet another ironic piece of knowledge, is how foxes rather resemble felines than their other canine family members. For instance, they behave similarly to cats, by doing things like walk on the tips of their toes and sneaking, then pouncing, on the prey they’re hunting. But there’s more that: foxes are also genetically similar to felines. They grow considerably more active at nightfall, being built with vertical pupils that grant them sight in conditions of dim light, and they also possess retractable claws! This means they can climb trees, often opting to take naps among the branches.

3. They Detect Magnetic Fields

Magnetic Field Detection Is One Of The Amazing Facts About Foxes

Have you ever seen a fox dive head-first into a pile of snow, leaving only its bottom legs hanging out? Yeah, what’s up with that? As crazy as it sounds, scientists strongly believe that foxes can detect Earth’s magnetic field and use it to calculate where to hit their prey — kind of like a missile. This can only happen while facing north, though, and it requires a serious amount of unbroken concentration. Still, how cool is that?

4. They Make Excellent Parents

Amazing Facts About Foxes Include Their Parenting Skills

Just like all these photos show us, foxes stick to their children with unwavering loyalty. They reproduce once a year, birthing an average of six pups, which are born blind until they open their eyes nine days later. The little ones stick by their parents until they’re seven months old. An incredible example of the parental love foxes carry is when a baby fox got caught in a trap, managing to survive because its mother brought food to it every day.

5. They Can Sustain Extremely Low Temperatures

The Arctic Fox Gives Us Some Amazing Facts About Foxes

Other than the red one, the most known kind of fox is the Arctic one. This sub-species is extremely adapted to the cold climates of the extreme Northern hemisphere. Its while fur coat helps it blend in with the snow, and it’s warm enough to keep the fox from shivering up to -70 degrees Celsius. During other seasons, the coat changes color to either brown or gray, helping it camouflage with the rocky tundra.

6. They’re Common In Folklore

Folklore Appearances Give Us Many Amazing Facts About Foxes

Part of the reason why foxes are associated with so many malevolent things, is due to their depiction in the traditional folklore of various civilizations. Perhaps the most famous of examples is the nine tailed fox, a recurring theme in many Asian cultures, though the fox is represented in the lore of medieval Europe and Native America too. Did you know that Finnish people believed the Northern lights were created by a fox that swiped sparks into the sky with its tail?

7. They Can Be Bought As Pets

Amazing Facts About Foxes - Bought As Pets

If you’re starting to grow fond of foxes based on the information laid before this, fear not: for $9000, you could own a fox as a pet yourself. A soviet geneticist started mass breeding foxes in the late 60’s, managing to produce a kind of domesticated foxes that, unlike tamed foxes, are docile towards humans from birth. Allegedly, as pets, these foxes are sweet and curious, but you might want to keep your expensive furniture out of their reach.

8. They’re Very Playful

Very Playful - Amazing Facts About Foxes

Foxes are very curious and frolicsome, both with their own kind and humans (though it’s debatable whether people want to be part of this game). In fact, they funnily so happen to be very fond of balls, which is why they can be seen invading golf courts and snatching them.

9. They Have Long History With Humans

Long History With Humans, Among The Amazing Facts About Foxes

Even if dogs are indeed man’s best friend, they aren’t our oldest friend. Researchers dug up in 2011 a grave in Jordan that’s over sixteen thousand millenniums old, finding there the remains of a man and of his supposedly pet fox. If this is all true, then it means that humans domesticated foxes and brought them by their side long before the first recorded human buried with a dog.

10. They’re Everywhere

Amazing Facts About Foxes Include Their Range

The most common kind of fox is the red one, something that’s majorly curtsy to its great adaptability in terms of diet and environments. This is how you can find red foxes all over the Northern hemisphere, from the Arctic, to South Africa, to Central America and even to the steppes of Asia.

11. What Does The Fox Say?

Amazing Facts About Foxes - Their Screams

They scream. This is what they basically sound like, and you can listen to it here. Warning to all the headphone users.

I don’t know about you, but I couldn’t stop staring at those photos. Foxes simply need to be a given a chance, you know? I mean, yeah, they might be snatching chickens right from the warm embrace of their nests, but it’s nothing any normal, instinctive animal hasn’t done before. If we keep all these 11 Amazing Facts About Foxes To Make You Love Them in mind, we can start appreciating foxes for the fascinating animals they really are.
