Temporary cinemas became common in Ghana in the 80s because of the video cassette technology. When “mobile cinema” operators traveled from town to town creating these temporary cinemas, they needed movie posters in order to promote the movies. They hired artists were given totally freedom to paint the posters as they wanted, some of them didn’t even watch the movies, and that is why the result was interesting and bizarre movie posters, mostly of horror and trash action movies.
A similar thing happened in Russia where these hand drawn movie posters were made.
I like the style. 🙂
great poster, I really like the detail
looks early street fighter
The style reminds me a little of Al Jaffee from Mad.
Those are great and better than most of the real posters I imagine. 🙂
i like the 'Jason Goes To Hell' movie poster, the mask looks really authentic and scary =))
love the evil dead one!
It is useful to try everything in practice anyway and I like that here it’s always possible to find something new. 🙂
I collect these African movie posters. These ones are pretty good but there are some better.
