Contest opened to give BP logo a new deserved look

Over the past few weeks there has been a lot of talking about the “BP Oil Spill” that happened in the Gulf of Mexico. It is considered as the largest offshore spill in U.S. history. Many people think that BP is handling the oil disaster badly, so to show the frustration LogoMyWay has made a contest where people can send in their redesigned BP logo with a “more suitable design”.

There have been made quite a few creative examples like making BP rather stand for Bad Planning and Big Problems. Some have even used animals as inspiration and created logos with birds or whales trapped in the oil.

Unlike this contest with negative logos, an artist has made illustrations of how things would look like in “the perfect world”.

You know, I have to tell you, I really enjoy this blog and the insight from everyone who participates. I find it to be refreshing and very informative. I wish there were more blogs like it. Anyway, I felt it was about time I posted, I?ve spent most of my time here just lurking and reading, but today for some reason I just felt compelled to say this.

It’s a pitty about those Blame Obama ads at the bottom.

    Ridiculous to blame him.

BP should be made to clean up every drop of oil – that much is obvious. Those affected by the spill should receive sufficient compensation to ensure that their livelyhoods are not affected to the tune of one cent.

But just STOP with the whining people. That this has happened is bad, but you guys just look like whiny losers.

It’s not like BP are sitting , they ARE trying, no matter what anyone says.

And at the end of the day, if you buy gas and support the dismantling of BP, that only makes you the hypocrit.

oh ffs, you are obviously the whiner here, the only trying that BP is doing, is trying to shirk responsibility and make more money out of a situation caused by greed in the first place. they have failed multiple attempts because they dont want to lose the money from the lost oil. instead of footing the 40 BILLION dollar bill, they are attempting to recover more cash instead of cleaning up what is already a significant amount of damage.

    Anonymous, you are a moron.

BP held their hands up and said “we accept full responsibility and costs for the clean up”

    That is on the record.

It’s a difficult job, so it won’t be done overnight.

If you’d read my comment properly, you would have read “BP should be made to clean up every drop of oil” and ” Those affected by the spill should receive sufficient compensation to ensure that their livelyhoods are not affected to the tune of one cent”

That’s because I don’t want BP to shirk their responsibility.

Oh, and BTW people, biggest does not necessarily equal worst. This spill is by far the biggest that has ever happened, but you measure ‘worst’ by amount of shoreline damaged, the sensitivity and bio-diversity of the local eco-system damaged etc.

Until the full impact is known, SCIENTIFICALLY and EMPIRICALLY, we will not KNOW how bad this spill is.

BP, roll back your gas prices now to save your customers, for every day that this disaster has been going on, you must now charge only $1.03 for a gallon of regular, don’t worry, we know you will still make a profit.

“Until the full impact is known, SCIENTIFICALLY and EMPIRICALLY, we will not KNOW how bad this spill is.”

Mmm, no… I’d say that one can pretty easily see that this is VERY. VERY. BAD.

    Laura,

Make a habit of reading something twice rather then skimming it. FFS’s quote stated we will not know how BAD the spill is. We all know it is very bad, we just don’t know if it is as bad as other oil spills that have occurred. Know one is saying it isn’t VERY. VERY. BAD.

We here at BP do not approve of any of these logos. From now on anyone else caught redesigning our logo is subject to copyright infringement… and an oily bird.

Very clever designs! I think it reflects an inevitable part of the ‘corporate branding’ process.

“BP held their hands up and said “we accept full responsibility and costs for the clean up” ”

No, they spent weeks blaming other companies involved, the government, and at one point a company that had no connection to the platform at all.

They finally accepted responsibility as the kickoff of their ongoing PR efforts to save face. However they refuse to compensate people whose livelihoods have been damage or destroyed, and after accepting responsibilities for cleanup costs immediately began arguing about what part of all of it “all of it” encompasses and what they don’t have to clean up and even had the gall to ask the government how it would be paid for. Then they stonewalled attempts for government, industry, and scientific entities to get details that they claim to know and were compelled (and promised) to release immediately.

There’s a reason why, despite their insistence of full responsibility and forthcoming full payment, their executives have to be hauled before a dozen different ruling bodies every week to be yelled at, as well as why the government just massively stepped up the money they’re spending on the cleanup BP promised would cost the government nothing. They’re not doing what they promised, what they promised is less than what they were ordered to do, and what they were ordered to do is a far cry less than what Oh, FFS himself thinks they should do.

You know, instead of people complaining, this should be turned into something somewhat productive. Everyone has been complaining about getting jobs… so why doesn’t somebody turn cleaning up the oil into a job? …It’s just a thought.
