First frozen semen test tube pandas are born

pandas (2)Pandas will maybe no longer be an endangered species. China’s Wolong Giant Panda Research Center has succeded in making female pandas pregnant using frozen semen from male pandas. The result was these two adorable twin cubs. Now the research center may be able to bring in semen from pandas in zoos, helping to maintain diversity within the captive panda population.

  1. This is amazing! Problem solved!

Now I wonder how possible it is to do this with other endangered species?

  2. This is animal cruelty. The female panda doesn’t get no action but still has to suffer through childbirth. Its unnatural and degrading.

  3. It’s too bad that part of the reason that Pandas are endangered is that they only eat one thing and even that one thing they don’t digest too well. And that one thing we are now useing to make socks and floors and such…
So now we just need to make pandas that have larger nutritional bases.

  4. To the clown talking about bamboo being used for socks and floors, it is very sustainable. There will be plenty for the pandas to eat.

  5. seriously, they need to put more effort into saving other animals, apparently WWF is thinking about dropping funding for pandas because compared to other endangered species, pandas do nothing for the environment, they just sit around and eat bamboo

there are much more important animals we could be saving, unfortunately they aren’t nearly as cute as pandas so its harder to get funding for them

  6. LOOK HOW TINY THOSE PANDAS ARE AT BIRTH. DO YOU REALLY THINK THE MOTHER SUFFERED WHEN THEY WERE BORN? AND HOW DO YOU KNOW THAT PANDAS AREN’T, OR WON’T BE GOOD FOR OUR ENVIRONMENT? WE SHOULD TRY TO SAVE ALL OF GOD’S CREATURES, ESPECIALLY THOSE WHO ARE ENDANGERED BECAUSE OF US!

  7. I wonder too about how much pain a birthing panda mother must be in if the babies she’s giving birth to are essentially the size of gerbils.

Plus, if that panda mama put out more, she wouldn’t need to be artificially inseminated just to save her species. Pandas are really the most laziest critters around when it comes to saving themselves. They may be cute, but I’m not really going to overly-grieve if pandas do lose funding for saving their sorry hides.

  8. Reasons why they're an endangered species is because the mating season takes place between March and May, when a female goes into her estrous cycle which lasts for two or three days and only occurs ONCE A YEAR. And also that pandas lose their interest in mating once in captivity. This has led some scientists to try extreme methods such as showing pandas videos of mating pandas and giving male pandas Viagra. pPulled that from wikipedia, so I had all the right verbiage or whatever. I think this artificial insemination is really badass. Saves the species, that's fa sho.

  9. you still have to worry about introducing into the wild.. yes this is great that we can do this in a lab in the comfort of a cage, but the real test is doing this in the wild and surviving

  10. All the bamboo they eat isnt in America. In the US there are bamboo “forests.”
And yes this is curel! I’m sure they’d rather livve happily in the wild and become extinct than be driven mad, being caged up in a tiny fake forest at a zoo.
There’s no point in saving the species. Its not like they can do ANYTHIONG for us, and we really are not doing them any good by keeping them in captivity. ITs so sad :((

  11. I believe it is amazing and wonderful that China has found a solution to help endangered Pandas, perhaps this method could be used to help other endangered species. The babies are so adorable!!! Keep up the great work!!!!!!

  12. To the guy that brought up that we’re using up their source of nutrition, we’re actually not. There are actually over 1000 different types of bamboo and pandas only eat one. The companies that use bamboo for their products make sure not to use the kind they they munch on. And like Mathilda said, it really is sustainable. Bamboo grows extremely fast. Also, it’s worth mentioning that bamboo actually isn’t all that pandas eat. It takes up most of their diet, but they also eat fish and fruit.

  13. Sure there will mathilda. shut up. poor panda’s. I have probably 20 stuffed panda in my romm. The stuffed animal kind not the kind where you get animals, stuff them, and keep them on those post things.

  14. its so awesome how theyre tiny enough to fit in our hand and once theyve grown, we’re tiny enough to fit in theres! 🙂

  15. its great that we can increase the population of endangered animals but it leaves one problem to be solved. Who will raise them? Studies have proven that all animals must be raised by adults of their own kind if they are going to learn proper behavior. case in point elephants who have been raised in a herd where all the adults had been killed off entered adulthood with many behavior problems that were bad both for the heard and the humans that lived in the area. as goes for monkeys, Rats and Humans. A foster care system must be put into place free of human compromise if this project is to make it to the next level.

  16. All that I said in prior comment put in place. Great work and Outstanding photo. GOD BLESS US ALL.

  17. Who are we to say who should become extinct? Just because pandas don’t do much for us doesn’t mean that their existence is meaningless. Humans are a huge reason there are so many animals on the endangered species list. Why do you have to be all selfish and have the animal do something for you? When was the last time you did anything for animals huh? This could be a way to protect our animals from extinction, shouldn’t we give back to them just once? Help give them a fighting chance to procreate and survive just like humans are given!

  18. wow those pandas are small! Very cool they are getting test tub pandas since they were/are endangered animals

  19. Hmmm, I guess survival of the fittest in an odd way, rather than adapting to the environment, they made themselves just cute enough for a more intelligent species to want to keep them alive.
