The Scariest Place To Play Tennis

August 28, 2011 By Anne Burwell 1 Comment

Dubai has always surprised the world with its amazingly tall buildings and wondrous constructions. Most of you have probably seen the Burj Al Arab; it’s the world’s most luxurious hotel and is noticeably shaped like the sail of a ship. Well, did you know that situated atop this glorious building is a tennis court?

That’s right: a tennis court that’s 1,000 feet high in the Dubai sky. And it’s a real court where you can play tennis matches as you enjoy the view over Dubai city. Well, I don’t know how much the players enjoy the view, as I’m sure they’ll be a little too concerned with, y’know, falling off the side as they play a game. And if you thwack one of those tennis balls a smidgen too hard, you can certainly say goodbye to its little yellow ass; I guess the people at the beach below must be used to having spherical objects falling down from the clouds and smacking them in the face. The tennis court was built on one of the hotel’s grass helipads to promote the tennis tournament Dubai Open. The first players to have a match on this court were former ATP number 1 Andre Agassi and Roger Federer.

More unusual places to play sports are these stadiums over the world.

About Anne Burwell

Daughter, sister, wife, mother and writer. I spend half of my free time writing and the other half reading contemporary literature. I like to start my day with half an hour of yoga and then I head over to my desk with a cup of green tea to start working on my sci fi novel. On weekends I like to head over to the country side for a breath of fresh air and to catch up with my mom.

It’s Roger Federer not Rafael Nadal.
