Who Is The Strongest Superhero?

July 21, 2016 By Toby Isaacson Leave a Comment

Who is the Strongest Superhero Ever?

This question has been haunting us for a long time. And, to be honest, it will probably continue to do so. The reason for this is simple: there are no statistical ways to form an answer to this question, so everything is mostly opinion-based and highly subjective. We all know how well that goes down on the Internet. Who is the strongest superhero? Subjectively, plenty of people.

Who Is The Strongest Superhero?

But the most important aspect most of us seem to be eluding is that there is no way to properly analyze all of the known superheroes and consider it fair to compare them. When we ask “who is the strongest superhero,” this can refer to so many things. Which one is most likely to outlive them all? Who has the most impressive set of skills? Who has the biggest physical strength?

With all of these factors being taken into consideration, we’ve tried to line up a few possible contenders.

[tcb-script src=”https://app.involve.me/embed”][/tcb-script]

As a conclusion, it’s hard to determine one winner. Traditionally, Superman would be the best pick because he manages to balance really well the skills necessary to an indestructible hero. But his life would really be tough if he were to ever go on par with one of these other aforementioned characters.

How about we just make them all team up to defend us and call it a day?

Villains We Want In The Marvel Spider-Man Reboot

May 28, 2016 By Toby Isaacson Leave a Comment

With Civil War having recently hit theaters (and receiving overall really positive reviews while at it too), it’s time for the Marvel Cinematic Universe to flip the page on a new chapter. And, boy, what a chapter it is. Spider-Man is the character who received the most movie adaptations in such a short time span. Merely a decade ago, Sam Raimi would give us the first interpretation, which would later become a trilogy in its rightful sense. Unfortunately, any possible sequels were postponed due to financial reasons. Only a few years later, Sony gave us The Amazing Spider-Man and its sequel.

And now, even less time passed between adaptations before it was decided that it was time for yet another reboot. This time, however, the project is in Marvel’s hands, where it should have always been. Needless to say, the Marvel has a track record for pulling movies that were average to good at their worst, so the expectations bar is raised yay high. Its take on everyone’s favorite web crawler is coming in 2017, featuring Tom Holland as the leading character Peter Parker. Here are the awesome Villains We Want In The Marvel Spider-Man Reboot.

#1 Venom

Marvel Spider-Man Reboot - Venom

Source

Yes, Venom made an appearance in the third installment of Sam Raimi’s trilogy, but it was far from being satisfying. The character of Eddie Brock was a bit off, the actor didn’t really fit the bill, and when Venom actually came into play, we were 15 minutes away from the end of the movie. He was rather a Venom-pretender cameo than the proper thing. As a result, we certainly speak for everyone when we say that an entire movie dedicated to the frightening symbiotic villain would really lift a boulder off the fans’ chests.

#2 Carnage

Marvel Spider-Man Reboot - Carnage

Source

And since we’re talking about psychotic spider-like characters, we can’t cross Carnage off this list. A late addition to Spider-Man’s universe, he is the perfect example that when something’s bad, it can go even worse. Spawned from Venom and attacked to a serial killer, Carnage’s insane power and complete detachment and lack of empathy made him so overwhelming that it forced Peter’s hand into an alliance with Venom to stop him.

#3 Jackal

Marvel Spider-Man Reboot - Jackal

Source

Admittedly, the Jackal’s overly-complicated cloning storyline would be fairly difficult to translate to the big screen, but there is more to Jackal than his obsession of repeatedly cloning Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy. He is incredibly intelligent. His brains would make for a great potential showdown and we’re not even counting the possibility of him introducing either (or both) of the Scarlet Spiders into the MCU.

#4 Rhino

Marvel Spider-Man Reboot - Rhino

Source

We were first teased with Rhino’s big screen debut in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Or, to put it more honestly, at the very end of the movie. Since he was supposed to play a big part in the third installment, we never actually got to see this “all brawls, no brain” archetype in proper action. This would make for a perfect chance for Marvel to give us a character completely different from the villains say Spidey battle in both series.

#5 Mysterio

Marvel Spider-Man Reboot - Mysterio

Source

An odd choice, some may say, but Mysterio would make for a mandatory inclusion in the MCU should the Sinister Six make an appearance and an excellent standalone villain if the odds end up not in our favor. Armed with nothing but a knack for dramatics, a talent to manufacture special effects, and a stubbornness to die, Mysterio has proven to be a real obstacle in Spider-Man’s way over the years.

#6 Kingpin

Marvel Spider-Man Reboot - Kingpin

Source

Daredevil fans probably collectively gasped. This is because Kingpin is a well-known troublemaker in Matt Murdock’s way, but he couldn’t seem to be able to keep his nose out of Spider-Man’s business either. Resembling at first glance the archetype of a mob leader commanding others while sitting in his chair and evilly stroking a cat, we later discover that Kingpin is pretty much 99.9% muscle and he can put up quite the physical fight.

Top 6 Curious Moments from the Star Wars History

November 25, 2015 By Anne Burwell Leave a Comment

Star Wars is one of the most popular franchises of all time, with six theatrical films which fans have been watching over and over again: Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith. The seventh movie of the installment, which is highly anticipated, will be released this December. However, if you haven’t thought of making a reservation yet, you might have to wait until next year. This is the magnitude of popularity of Star Wars. In spite of this, there are many fans who want more. For those with curious minds, many have written spin-offs, either as novels or comics. Some of these are official, and some not. And we mustn’t forget the huge fanfiction base this series has.

However we won’t get into that now. We compiled a list of the top 6 curious moments from the Star Wars history. Take a look.

1. The First Sequel

Splinter of the Mind's Eye is part of the top 6 curious moments from the Star Wars history.

At the beginning, no one could tell if Star Wars would become truly successful or not. The director, George Lucas, had to have a plan B, a sequel movie on a lower budget. Thus Alan Dean Foster was hired to write a novel as a sequel. This novel would be later on adapted for the big screen. However, Han Solo was completely cut out, since Harrison Ford didn’t commit at that time for any sequels.

The events of the novel, titled “Splinter of the Mind’s Eye”, happened on just one planet in order to avoid expensive costs for for the movie. Leia and Luke basically end up stranded on this planet which happens to be the place where Darth Vader is setting into motion one of his evil plans. The siblings had all sorts of weird flirty moments, as well as one when Luke slaps Leia. Thankfully, we never saw this on the big screen.

2. The Casino

One of the top 6 curious moments from the Star Wars history is when Luke went to a Casino.

Also during the 1980s, a comic strip about how Luke Skywalker and Boba Fett invented snowboarding was published. But wait, it gets weirder and weirder. What was more surprising was the fact that Luke had the mission to get inside the Casino Royale on the Gambler’s World planet and steal some winnings from the Emperor. At the Casino, Luke gets really into a certain game named “Cosmic Chance”. The game featured a huge ball which had pagan symbols engraved all over it. Luke seems to have a lot of luck with the game and wins a lot of money. However, it becomes quite clear that he used the Force to cheat the game. What a disappointment.

3. The Radio Show

The Star Wars radio show revealed a lot of scenes that were cut from the movies.

As with most of the movies, the Star Wars franchise had a lot of deleted scenes. In the 1980s these special scenes were detailed during a radio show. Along with many funny but necessary scenes, listeners also found out about the true meaning of a certain scene. While Uncle Owen and Luke were buying droids from the Jawas, they left R2-D2 behind and selected R5-D4 and C-3PO. At that moment, R5 exploded out of a sudden, which seems to be a reference to being sold to slavers. The radio show revealed that is was R2 who sabotaged R5, and this has been confirmed by a Star Wars Encyclopedia.

4. The Ewoks’ Lifestyle

The harsh lives of the Ewoks have made it into our top 6 curious moments from the Star Wars history.

“The Adventures of Teebo” is a children’s book about the lives of the Ewoks, the creatures that look like teddy bears but are nothing like them. We find out from the book that they are an oppressed nation on Endor, being constantly chased by some dark hairy monsters riding huge spiders and wielding pitchforks. However, these guys are not the villains. The title belongs to the Duloks, a nastier version of Ewoks, who are trying to eat all the Ewok babies. Not quite a children’s story after all.

5. The Novels

Read the events from Star Wars from the perspective of Luke Skywalker.

A book based on the movies was released in the 1970s, titled “Star Wars – From The Adventures Of Luke Skywalker”. One of the scenes featured in the book is the one where Luke and Ben Kenobi go to Mos Eisley to a tavern where they almost get into a fight with a weird alien. Ben is revealed to be Obi-Wan Kenobi and ends up cutting the guy’s arm with his lightsaber. In the novel however, the scene becomes much more violent, as Obi-Wan also sliced two other persons in half. Afterward, the bartender and his assistants drag the corpses away, as if this happens every day in their local.

6. The Chinese Comics

The first place in the top 6 curious moments from the Star Wars history goes to the Chinese comics.

However, nothing beats the Star Wars comics from China. At the moment of their release, the movies could only be viewed in Hong Kong, and thus many Chinese had to find other ways to experience the franchise. As a result, these comics were born. There is nothing less accurate than this: Chewbacca looks like a chimpanzee and Darth Vader shines in the dark and rides a Triceratops dinosaur. More so, his plan is to attack Kennedy Space Center, because apparently ruling the galaxy is not enough. The Chinese comics surpass any bounds of imagination and can justly be crowned as kings of the top 6 curious moments from the Star Wars history.

There Will Be a Female Version of Thor Soon

August 13, 2014 By Fred Mitchell Leave a Comment

Fans of comics and of superhero movies, prepare for something which will blow your mind in the near future: Thor has been announced to switch gender pretty soon. The decision has been made as part of an effort to bring credible female role models into the world of comics and superheroes, and we can be nothing but excited by the decision to promote stronger female characters. But the most interesting and intriguing detail about this upcoming change is its narrative twist, which is announced to be more than a “what if Thor was a female?” exercise of imagination. No, the story will not simply be a saga of the Northern god in his feminine version, but it will involve actual change, most probably by a female secondary character picking up the hammer of Thor after his retirement, thus sparking her transformation.

thor

According to Marvel, the classic Thunder God will no longer be able to wield his mighty hammer, which is why the future heroine will step in his shoes and become an awesome female version of Thor. This change is already being written for comics by Jason Aaron, and Marvel has also confirmed that the new character will eventually be featured in a new Thor movie as well. We already have a few great actresses in mind for the part and we’re super excited about the moment, but our appetite will probably first be sated with a few comics releases before we can see the first movie trailer.

The old female version of Thor

There was an older attempt to feminize the Northern God in the Marvel universe, under the form of Thor Girl (born sometime in 2000 and only present in some not that mainstream editions of comics). But that character should be seen as something closer to a classic sidekick than a proper and full-fledged female version of Thor. Named Terene, the girl first gains the help of Thor and Orikan to fight for her destroyed homeland, and later manages to evolve into an Asgardian goddess herself and fight by Thor’s side as his helper. She then takes the name “Thor Girl” as a means of gratitude to him, and continues to basically play the sidekick. The upcoming female Thor will actually involve a complete transfer of power and identity from the old Thor to his new feminine counterpart.

Things we’re excited about with the upcoming change

Well, first of all, this isn’t the only upcoming change meant to create a stronger move within the Marvel universe. Other news report that the female version of Thor will be just part of the shifts, alongside similar shocking changes to the identities of Captain America and Iron Man. Although strong changes always risk alienating some of the fans, we can’t help feeling excited and curious about what’s to come.

Another thing we’re excited about is, of course, the awesomeness of the kick-ass actress who will get to play the part in the movie set to come out eventually. Although we’ve recently berated the movie Lucy (2014) for different reasons, there are few things we enjoy more than a badass female character setting the world straight. We’d also really like to see some romance where the godly action hero is the feminine element of the couple, and the man she becomes involved with does not feel threatened by her awesomeness. That’s one of the main points of such a feminist shift of story, right?

One of the things we’re less excited about is watching Chris Hemsworth leave the role, but we hope the character retires into having lots of gorgeous babies and living happily ever after with his lady mad scientist played by Natalie Portman. And as long as Loki played by Tom Hiddleston remains very much present in the story, we are definitely not complaining, if you know what we mean. All in all, we can’t wait to find out more about the female version of Thor, even if it’s just in the comics at first.

The Top 5 Female Superheroes in Movies

July 4, 2014 By Fred Mitchell Leave a Comment

Who doesn’t love some badass fun females that can save the day or do some mischief with few being able to get in their way? Female superheroes are both inspiring as a model of a strong female character, and also pleasing to the eye as well. There’s really nothing not to like about them, and their huge popularity within the comics and superhero films fan cultures proves it. Since today is the 4th of July – and with Captain America and Wonder Woman serving as the patriotic superheroes everyone knows so well – we thought it would be a good time to talk about superheroes. We previously shared with you a list of the best and worst superhero vehicles. So, today, we created a list of the most popular female superheroes featured in movies.

1. Wonder Woman

The Top 5 Female Superheroes in Movies

Since we already mentioned Wonder Woman, let’s start with her. As most superheroes, she was initially created within comic book canon. For the most part, she has only been presented in comic books and magazines since 1941. This brunette superheroine, clad in the American flag, was created by psychologist and writer William Moulton Marston, at a time when the West was already preparing for the Cold War. Therefore, writers often depicted her character fighting the Axis military forces. Another detail that contributes to her popularity is the fact that her origins are those of an Amazon princess. She fights for gender equality. She appeared in several TV series and is also going to be a part of the upcoming Batman vs. Superman movie, scheduled for 2016. To this day, she remains to this day the most iconic of all female superheroes.

2. Catwoman

2

Historically a villainess, Catwoman has been an iconic bad girl turned good in lots of movies. She is deeply ingrained in the fan culture of superheroes. Many talented actresses portray her over the years. The most recent role was played by Anne Hathaway (pictured above). From all the female superheroes the fictional universes have to offer, she is the living embodiment of hotness and her name says it all.

3. Phoenix (Jean Grey)

3

Jean Grey was already awesome enough back when she was simply a powerful telepath, but when she is taken over by the Phoenix cosmic force, she becomes almost god-like. Or should we say, goddess-like? She becomes a tremendously powerful goddess with her red locks flowing in the currents of her power (extra awesome points). After the death of her partner, Cyclops, she falls into a deep sorrow that triggers her to become a Dark Phoenix avatar (pictured above) which threatens to destroy everyone and everything. What makes her story even more memorable is, of course, the touching unrequited love which Wolverine has for her.

4. Invisible Woman

4

The Fantastic Four wouldn’t be quite so fantastic without their now you see me, now you don’t figure, Susan, also known as the Invisible Woman. The beautiful Susan was initially a more damsel in distress type of character, when her passive invisibility was all she had, but later on she gained new powers which made her a force to be reckoned with. Her apparent frailty and gentle nature make her a wonderful addition to the top of awesome female superheroes.

5. Black Widow

5

There were a few other characters which deserved to be honored on this list of best female superheroes (like Storm and Rogue from X-Men to name only two), but the Black Widow, by her real name Natalia Romanova, was the best choice. Not because the other candidates would lack impressive skills or charm. On the contrary. What’s so awesome about Natalia is the impression she gives of being a self-made woman. Unlike other female superheroes (and male superheroes for that matter), she didn’t get superpowers thanks to genetics or some mutation. She is one of the only characters who worked hard for her combat skills. If that’s not worthy of admiration, then I don’t know what is.
